Metal Gear Rex 1/100 Scale from Kotobukiya, finally done. I had to strip and repaint the left leg shield, as my final topcoat somehow reacted to either the enamel wash, or the undercoat lacquer. Either way I stripped it, and remasked, and repainted, with weathering to complete the build.
Overall, I was happy to tackle something like this, where It was similar, but very different from Gunpla that I usually do. It was also the first time I did a camouflage paint scheme.
I had to use Lacquer paints this time, as I did not want to have the hassle of peeling caused by the hobby tape lifting my acrylic base coats. Surfacer Light Gray 1500 from Zurc was used for priming. Base Color was 1938 Light Blue RLM 65 World War 2 from Armored Komodo. The Dark Green Camouflage is also Arkom - Japanese Black Green World War 2. I usually just use acrylics, but I won these paints from IPMS raffle last December, and decided to use them. They are very durable, and easy to mask, as they don’t lift even with just 4 hours of drying, then applying tape.
The yellow was still acrylic ZURC Yellow paint. The off-white qas also acrylic - Zurc G3 white. The little figures of Solid Snake, Liquid, and Gray Fox were all apinted with waterbased acrylics from Arkom.
Weathering was a mix of brown enamel wash (light application), and acrylic waterbased paints I sponged on, or painted with small brushes. I erased most of them with cotton buds to have it retain a lightly weathered look.
Decals were spare waterslide decals from some previous builds I had extras off the sheets. I applied them randomly according to my taste. Topcoats before panel line and decals was Gloss Clear from Zurc, and final topcoat was Zurc Flat. It has a satin finish as I did not go heavy on the flat coat.
