XVX-016 Gundam Aerial

I just finished watching The Witch from Mercury and I really liked it! Highly reccomend. The soundtrack is fantastic and the action is really well animated. I felt the story was a tad rushed at the end but I believe they had to cut the runtime so they did well considering. Anyways, it made me really want to go all out on the Aerial kit (and collect all of the HGs :).

This is my first Full Mechanics kit. I really liked it! It felt good to take a bit of a break from MGs while still retaining the size and most of the detail.

This is my most ambitious kit yet. I painted all of the coloured pieces in metallic paint, masked and painted some of the armour panels in a light blue, painted the inner frame, hand painted some details, and the usual panel lining, waterslides, and flat clear coat.

I decided to gloss coat the metallics and flat coat the rest which proved more challenging than I thought. I tried gloss coating then masking over that, then flat coating. That proved pretty difficult so for the rest of the kit I decaled then glossed and flatted all of the parts seperately. It really threw me out of my usual groove. I’m glad I followed through though because it looks really good.

I also gambled with the action base. I ordered it off of the Delpi Decal site when I was ordering some waterslides. I had this pose in mind the entire build and was pretty worried that it wasn’t going to work out since the base is made for 1/144 scale. As you can see though, it worked really well.

Thanks for checking it out!

For reference of supplies I used:

Tamiya LP Gunmetal for the inner frame, Mr Color GX Rough Gold for the yellow parts, Mr Color GX Metallic Blue for the blue parts, Tamiya LP Pure Metallic Red for the red parts, Tamiya LP Flat Clear, Tamiya LP Gloss Clear, Tamiya Black Panel Liner, Army Painter Speedpaint Honey Yellow for the knee tubes, a mix of the Mr Color Metallic Blue and Gold for the eyes and gun scope, Tamiya masking tape, and Evo waterslide decals.
